On April 12, the meeting about application to the Funiushan geopark expansion and preparation for the revalidation in mid-2018 was held in Nanyang city, heralding the coming of the third mid-assessment of Funiushan Global Geopark.The relevant leaders and experts from Henan Provincial Department of Land and Resources and the Provincial Institute of Land and Resources, and responsible persons from units related to Funiushan Global Geoparkin Nanyang city and Luoyang city attended the meeting.

        In the meeting, it was pointed that the reputation of Funiushan Global Geopark had greatly improved since it was validated, leading to a rapid development of tourism in Nanyang city and Luoyang city and becoming a new source of economic growth, which produces enormous economic, social, ecological and environmental benefits. The logo of “Funiushan Global Geopark” is not only the honor of Nanyang city and Luoyang city, but also the honor of Henan province and the whole country. This honorable logo improves the visibility and boosts the tourism of the two cities, which produces obviously economic, social and environmental benefits. It’s required that the relevant departments and units in the two cities should understand the significance of the revalidation, carefully organize,deploy,and carry out the preparations in accordance with the requirements of UNESCO, to ensure a higher level of management and construction and the successful third revalidation, making new economic and social contributions to two cities.

        Funiushan Globalo Geopark passed two evaluations in 2010 and 2014 and in 2018 it will usher in the third revalidation. And this preparatory meeting was based on UNESCO International Geoscience and Geopark Program Chart, which makes more exact demands on the construction and development of geoparks. In the meeting , experts explained the new regulations for the construction of geoparks. The initial work plan, the mobilization and the deployment for the revalidation were also formed in the meeting.
